Difficult to say: can be glorious and also 'dreach' - Scottish expression for pretty miserable! It is surprisingly warm as the Gulf Stream hugs this part of the Scottish coast which does affect the weather.
What supplies are provided at the house?
Starter toilet roll & soap per basin and loo. Washing up liquid, dishcloth & Scotchbrite. Lots of dry goods left in larder like salt & pepper herbs & spices.
Where is the nearest supermarket?
The Co-op in Mallaig will arrange to put up a grocery order for you to collect from the shop before you catch the boat. The best thing is to fax your order & then ring with your credit card number and check if there are any queries on your list. Phone numbers etc on request. More provisions can be sent over on the ferry which runs daily during the summer but on M, W & F only at other times. Ring the day before with any order. Alternatively there is a large Morrison's in Fort William.
Are towels/beach towels provided?
Towels are provided. No beach towels - if you are that brave then please BYO!
What if I need to receive mail, faxes, or e-mail whilst I'm on holiday?
Mail will be delivered on M, W & F afternoon when it has come over on the ferry. This is left in the post box by the gate. Outgoing post should be posted in the box by the Post Office by 10.45 am on M, W & F to catch the boat. There is no fax facility. There is an internet facility in the Estate Office, next to the pub, in the village. Mobile reception is poor - you have to go to the top of a hill and face Mallaig!
Can I bring my pet?
Regrettably pets are not permitted at Creag Eiridh.
Is there a telephone at the house?
Yes, a pay-phone, the number is 01687 462040.
Can you organise our transport from the airport/train station/port to the house?
Regrettably not, we only collect and return to Mallaig by boat.
Should I hire a car, and where is the best place to do this?
You will need a car to get to Mallaig unless you arrive by train. As Knoydart is only accessible by boat, cars have to be left in Mallaig. There is a Land Rover available if required. Details on request.
What laundry facilities are there?
There is a washing machine and a large drying room.
Does the house have central heating in every room?
Yes in every room.
Does the house have TV, CD, Video and DVD players and are there any tapes/CDs already there?
There is no TV/Video or DVD player. There are 2 stereo systems and a collection of mainly classical CDs.
Is there local area information - maps, leaflets, activities etc - provided at the house?
There is a large information book at the house. This lists not only useful information about the house, but also comprehensive information about places of interest and things to do in the surrounding area.
Where can I get logs if we want to have a fire?
Logs are always available at the house.
Is there a BBQ at the house?
No - we take disposable ones as there are so many lovely places to have BBQs by the side of the river etc.
